Zusammenfassung
Die Eröffnungsverse aus Ovids erstem Werk, den Amores, verbildlichen die Darstellung des Kampfes zweier verschiedener Gattungen, Epos und Elegie. Kaum ist der Dichter mit dem ersten Hexameter seines gerade begonnenen epischen Gedichts fertig, da tritt Cupido auf, um ihm im nächsten Vers eine Hebung zu rauben: So wird es dem Leser in am. 1, 1–4 erzählt. Der ›erste Anfang‹ von Ovids Gesamtwerk stellt uns das Bild eines Autors vor Augen, der aufgrund einer Variation der äußeren Form seines Gedichts gezwungen ist, den Inhalt zu ändern, als ob die Umgestaltung des Versmaßes allein genügen würde, um die ›Substanz‹ des kreativen Prozesses zu bestimmen.
