Zusammenfassung

Die Medicamina faciei femineae (»Weibliche Schönheitsmittel«) sind in der mittleren Schaffensphase Ovids entstanden und lassen sich auf ca. 2/1 v. Chr. datieren; ihnen gehen die Liebeselegien (Amores), die verlorene Tragödie Medea und die Heroinenbriefe (Heroides) voraus. Ein entsprechendes Selbstzeugnis in Ars Amatoria 3, 205–206 als Verweis auf die bereits edierten Medicamina veranlasst die Forschungslandschaft tendenziell ein Entstehen nach der Veröffentlichung der ersten beiden Bücher und vor der des dritten anzunehmen. Gemeinsam mit den Amores, der Ars und den Remedia Amoris bilden sie den thematischen Komplex der ovidischen Carmina amatoria.
