Zusammenfassung
Die Heroides oder Epistulae Heroidum sind eine Sammlung von 21 fiktiven Briefen, aufgeteilt in 15 Einzelbriefe und drei Briefpaare. Die Einzelbriefe werden von mythischen Frauenfiguren (mit Sappho als einziger Ausnahme) geschrieben: Sie schreiben an ihre Ehemänner, ihre Geliebten oder an Männer, in die sie verliebt sind. Die Briefe 16 bis 21 sind als Briefpaare angelegt, in denen die Frau auf einen des Mannes antwortet.
