Zussamenfassung
Seit Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts sind die Begriffe World Music, Weltmusik und Musique du Monde in Presse und Fachliteratur zu finden. Erstmals genutzt wurde der Begriff Weltmusik im Jahr 1906, als der Musikologe Georg Capellen »an der Unerschöpflichkeit europäischer Melodie, Tonalität und Rhythmik« zweifelte und »nach neuen Quellen zur Belebung der kreativen Vorstellungskraft« (Franzen 2005, 738) außerhalb Europas suchte.
