Zusammenfassung
GSM wurde ursprünglich als paneuropäisches Mobilfunknetz entwicklet, doch schon kurz nach dem Start der ersten Netze in Europa wurden auch in anderen Kontinenten GSM-Netze aufgebaut (z.B. in Australien, Hong Kong und Neuseeland). Mittlerweile gibt es weltweit 372 Netze in 142 Ländern (Stand August 2000 [27]). Dieser steigenden Globalisierung wurde bereits mit mehreren Schritten Rechnung getragen.
