Zusammenfassung
Philanthropie, das freiwillige, nicht gewinnorientierte Geben von Zeit oder Wertgegenständen (Geld, Wertpapiere, Sachgüter) für öffentliche Zwecke (Salamon 1992), spielte bislang lediglich eine geringe Rolle in Deutschland. Der Anteil von privaten Spenden an den Einnahmen von Nonprofit-Organisationen liegt lediglich bei 4 Prozent, während dieser sich in den USA auf 19 Prozent beläuft (Salamon/Anheier 1996: 61). Der relativ unbedeutende gesellschaftliche Stellenwert zeigt sich auch bei der wissenschaftlichen Erforschung philanthropischen Handelns: Diese steht noch ganz am Anfang. Auf diesem Hintergrund ist es nicht verwunderlich, daß auch über das Thema Frauen und Philanthropie hierzulande wenig bekannt ist.
