Zusammenfassung

Die methodologische Umstrittenheit der Einzelfallstudie beruht im wesentlichen auf dem Argument mangelnder Generalisierbarkeit ihrer Ergebnisse. Die wissenschaftliche Erforschung komplexer sozialer Gebilde wie Organisationen unterliegt jedoch stets dem Dilemma, unmöglich zugleich allgemeingültige, einfache und genaue Ergebnisse hervorbringen zu können (vgl. Thorngate 1976). In einer Untersuchung können höchstens zwei dieser Merkmale auf Kosten des dritten maximiert werden. So verbinden Fallstudien in der Regel Genauigkeit und Einfachheit ihrer Ergebnisse und opfern dafür ihre generelle Relevanz.
