Zusammenfassung
Wenn sich die Art der Informiationsverbreitung grundlegend ändert, so zieht dies zwangsläufig Konsequenzen für den Journalismus nach sich. Nicholas Negroponte vom Media Lab des MIT zeichnete bereits in den achtziger Jahren ein kühnes Bild von den Umwälzungen, die der Information Superhighway seiner Meinung nach für diesen Berufsstand bringen wird. Er rechnet mit dem Siegeszug des Daily Me, der elektronischen Zeitung, die die Leser nach ihren eigenen Themenpräferenzen zusammenstellen (Brand 1990: 60 – 63). Nicht mehr Journalisten bestimmen nach dieser Vision, was für die Zeitungsabonnenten wichtig ist, sondern selbstbewußte und sehr gut vorinformierte Leser wählen anhand eines Rasters ihrer Lieblingsthemen aus, welche Nachrichten der Computer für sie über Nacht sammeln soll. Das Frühstück beginnt dann mit der maßgeschneiderten Zeitung - wahlweise am Bildschirm oder mit der ausgedruckten Version des Daily Me. Der Politikteil einer solchen ‘Zeitung’ könnte nur die Themenfelder abdecken, die als Interessensgebiete angegeben wurden, dafür aber ausführlichere Informationen bringen als bei herkömmlichen Publikationen. Der Wirtschaftsteil ließe sich problemlos auf Nachrichten und Marktanalysen zu den Unternehmen beschränken, deren Aktien der Leser bzw. die Leserin besitzt oder zu kaufen gedenkt. Das Zeitalter der Individulisten hätte damit die individuelle Zeitung hervorgebracht.
