Abstract

Only a few years after it was established in Romania, the religious movement Oastea Domnului began to spread among Romanian Orthodox Christians in the part of the Banat in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and at the beginning of the 1930s, started to form local associations. The formation of the movement had as its primary goal, the prevention of spreading of neo-Protestant teachings. In this chapter, the goals and development of the movement are presented from its beginnings to modern times. It is based on archive data, contemporary periodicals in Romanian, and oral statements from believers. After its ban in Romania by the communist regime in 1948, it continued to exist in the Yugoslav part of Banat. From the beginning of the 1970s, the movement experienced renewal.
