Abstract
The authors analyse how competition within regional television drama industries and new international market players require innovative funding, production and distribution models. The authors’ main example is The Bridge as a conspicuously glocal production and Midnight Sun as an example of the relation between local colour and social criticism. The authors point out how screen tourism developed as a new type of collaboration between creative industries and local authorities, tourism organisations, broadcasters and production companies, all of whom are working together on funding, distribution and marketing strategies. The authors regard Nordic Noir as an illustration of how Nordic public service broadcasters may succeed in achieving international acknowledgement, transnational collaboration and public attention by anchoring their productions in local ideas and places alongside strong public service values.
