Abstract
In this chapter, the author offers a discussion of being real in the classroom by applying the notions of teaching to transgress. Teaching to transgress diverse boundaries, both in and outside of the classroom is the goal. She suggests tools that have helped to make real the learning and teaching of the sociology of gender. Theory, storytelling, application, and praxis are discussed as ways to help students move from protest and resistance to praxis. Grounded in theory, storytelling and application activities are offered. All of which help to model and move students to seeing gender in everyday life as an embodied or living practice rather than an innate or essential quality. Given that, students are empowered to enact gender justice and equality.
