Die Mamillen-Areola-Rekonstruktion ist eine stets anzustrebende Komponente der Brustrekonstruktion. Das Weglassen dieses letzten Rekonstruktionsschrittes bei einer sonst akzeptablen Brustrekonstruktion, führt zu keinem guten ästhetischen Resultat, weil die Symmetrie — welche das primäre Ziel der Brustrekonstruktion ist — in diesem Fall nicht erreicht werden kann.
