Zusammenfassung
Die Lepidophyten waren vor allem im Karbon und Perm mächtig entwickelt. Heute ist die Abteilung noch mit drei Ordnungen vertreten. Die rezenten Vertreter der drei Ordnungen werden meistens in je einer Familie untergebracht.
