Zusammenfassung
Als Pteridophyten fasst man oft diejenigen Tracheophyten zusammen, die durch Sporen verbreitet werden. Samen werden durch diese Sippe nie erzeugt. Die Pteridophyten umfassen die ältesten heute noch lebenden Gefässpflanzen. Die rezenten Formen stellen nur eine sehr kleine Auswahl einer einmal in unendlich viel grösserer Artenzahl vertretenen Sippe dar.
