Zusammenfassung
Einjährige oder perennierende Kräuter, seltener strauchig, mit ungeteilten oder geteilten, Wechsel- oder gegenständigen Blättern, meist mit Nebenblättern. Blüten einzeln oder in arm- bis reichblütigen, ± doldigen Blütenständen. Blüten regelmässig bis schwach zygomorph, mit 4–5zähligem, meist freiem Kelch, meist 5zähliger, freier Krone, 5, 10 oder 15 Staubblättern und 2–5fächerigem, oberständigem Fruchtknoten. Früchte oft Spaltfrüchte, die in charakteristische, geschnabelte, einsamige Teilfrüchte zerfallen. Samen mit spärlichem Endosperm.
