Summary
Circumstances that increase and decrease the excitability of lateral giant (LG) escape are reviewed. Three types of inhibition (recurrent, post-excitatory, and tonic) that affect direct input to the LG are compared and found to utilize different pathways. Reasons for multiple inhibitory systems are discussed.
