Abstract

We would not destroy the rigorous method of science or the resourceful technology of the engineer. We would merely limit their application to intelligible and humane purposes. Nor would we remove altogether the mechanical world-picture, with its austere symbolism; we would rather expand it and supplement it with a vision of life which drew upon other needs of the personality than the crude will-to-power.
