Abstract
This chapter provides an assessment of the macroeconomic impact of COVID-19 and attendant policy implications. It shares three lessons evinced from the region’s response to COVID-19 that are useful for its resilience building and sustainable development planning going forward. The chapter examines the short-term actions deployed to resuscitate economies as well as discusses systemic policy imperatives to usher in a new development paradigm in the medium to long term. The methodological approach involves both quantitative and qualitative methods, including data analytics and desk reviews. The chapter contributes to the new and emerging body of scholarly work on the impact of COVID-19 by reflecting on the Caribbean’s economic experience with the pandemic.
