Abstract
An agreement popularly known as the ‘Peace Accord’ was signed between the Government of Bangladesh and the Parbhatia Chttagram Jana Sanghati Samiti on 2 December 1997 to ensure peace and security in the Chittagong Hill Tract region. This agreement was welcomed at first as a resolution to the long-running conflict in this area and as a means of assuring territorial integrity, national security, and general peace and stability in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region. Yet as time goes on, it becomes increasingly difficult to sustain this accord as many opposing forces are impeding its execution, which makes the situation once again critical. This study looks at how the accord is now being implemented, what difficulties are in the way, and the intent of the government on this issue.
