Funktionen von Sportvereinen in europäischen Gesellschaften

Zusammenfassung

In diesem Kapitel werden die Ergebnisse der länderübergreifenden vergleichenden Analyse hinsichtlich des Beitrags europäischer Sportvereine zum Gemeinwohl vorgestellt und mögliche Erklärungen für die festgestellten Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede geliefert. Die Analyse zeigt, dass Sportvereine in Bezug auf die vier untersuchten Funktionen – Gesundheitsförderung, soziale Integration, Demokratie und ehrenamtliche Arbeit – einen bedeutenden Beitrag zum Gemeinwohl leisten. Der Beitrag der Sportvereine zu diesen Funktionen kann jedoch hauptsächlich als Nebeneffekt der von den Vereinen angebotenen Aktivitäten verstanden werden. Der Beitrag der Sportvereine zum Gemeinwohl ist in vielerlei Hinsicht relativ ähnlich, aber die Analyse zeigt auch erhebliche Unterschiede zwischen den Ländern auf. Mögliche Erklärungen für die festgestellten Ähnlichkeiten und Unterschiede werden auf verschiedenen Analyseebenen untersucht. Auf der Makroebene (gesellschaftliche Ebene) werden Erklärungen in Bezug auf den historischen Ursprung und die politischen Gelegenheitsstrukturen von Sportvereinen diskutiert. Auf der Mesoebene (Ebene der Sportvereine) werden Erklärungsansätze hinsichtlich den konstitutiven Elementen und typischen Merkmalen, der organisationalen Kapazitäten sowie den strukturellen Eigenschaften von Sportvereinen diskutiert. Auf der Mikroebene (Mitgliederebene) werden Erklärungsansätze mit Blick auf den sozialen Hintergrund sowie die Motivation und das Engagement der Mitglieder diskutiert. Das Kapitel endet mit fünf Hinweisen zur Verbesserung des Beitrags von Sportvereinen zum Gemeinwohl.
