The Emergence of the Chroniqueers

  • Chapter
  • First Online:
LGBTQ+ People with Chronic Illness

Abstract

This chapter aims at providing concluding thoughts that emerged along the discussion outlined so far. In particular, it focuses on the political implications of the intersection between chronic illness and sexual and gender diversity and to what extent it can give rise to a political subjectivity of “chroniqueers”. In the first part, I focus on the reflections that emerged through the queer-crip lenses applied to time, care, and (in)visibility. I then move to discuss future directions for research in the field and possible unfoldings of this work in other fields. Finally, I reflect on the “chroniqueers” as political subjectivities and their implications in the study of LGBTQ+ lives and chronic illness.
