Abstract
This introduction and the whole volume aim to incorporate anthropological research and analysis into the study of family businesses and business families. Therefore, the topics of kinship and economy are brought together in a particular way. Family business researchers with a strong background in management studies dominate the analysis of family firms and business families until today. However, adding anthropological research to family business will benefit future research in both disciplines and provide a better understanding of family business beyond traditional research trajectories. This introduction and the volume aim to initiate such discussions and provide a starting point by engaging with the literature and giving ethnographic examples from different cultural settings around the globe.
