Abstract
The various economic and social challenges caused by Covid-19 have had adverse effects on every nation around the globe, including African nations, many of which lack the resources to cope with the ramifications. The Covid-19 pandemic presents a considerable threat to the attainment of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), originally slated to be achieved by 2030. This chapter examines the correlation between the pandemic and achievement of the SDGs, especially those that are in urgent need of action: people (SDGs 1–5), prosperity (SDGs 8–10), planet (SDGs 11–13), and partnerships (SDG 17). Accordingly, the chapter argues that accelerated efforts and significant investments in African countries’ healthcare systems, national emergency strategies, and economic recovery programmes should be put in place to drive the attainment of the SDGs.
