Abstract
The first part of this chapter examines the main interconnected drivers behind the first renaissance of Francisco de Vitoria and the ‘Divines of Salamanca’ in the history of international ideas in the late nineteenth century. The second part explains the main factors underlying the second Vitorian revival and the ensuing consolidation of the international reputation of Vitoria and the ‘Spanish classics’ as the forefathers of international law in the interwar period. The third part analyses the three main axes of the third Vitorian revival during the post-Cold War globalization age. The conclusion considers the research scope and potential of a renewed Vitorian historiography in international law.
