Abstract

Denmark is a country characterized among others by high standards of transparency and human rights, a high level of trust, and having a welfare state financed through high taxes. In the business environment, Danish companies have largely adopted global responsibility standards and perform well on environmental, social and governance aspects. In this chapter, we examine whether these high social responsibility standards reflect in young job seekers’ preferences when choosing an employer. For this purpose, we survey 86 students in social sciences and management to assess the importance of 25 employer attributes. The results demonstrate a prevailing importance of firms’ responsibility towards employees and general workplace attractiveness, which both have direct influences on the individual. We discuss these findings in the context of Danish institutions and values.
