Abstract
This chapter will critically discuss the notion of overtourism based on the study of the tourism peaks management evolution in Ticino region, Switzerland. The analysis shows how tourism management policy has changed over the decades, excluding political-cultural criteria and adopting a purely economic perspective. This, in turn, reinforces the feeling of exclusion on the part of the local population, which reacts aggressively to excessive tourism. This case study shows that the problem behind anti-tourist movements is not over-tourism, but rather a reaction to social exclusion. This opens new theoretical perspectives and allows a critical reflection on the notion of overtourism.
