Abstract
Natural or artificial irradiation of certain solid materials generates paramagnetic centres, free radicals, defects or ions, which are stable enough to be identified and quantified by EPR. The irradiation dose can be assessed from the intensity of the spectrum, which opens opportunities for numerous applications such as dosimetry of radiation used in radiotherapy or to sterilise food, determination of the dose received by individuals during chronic exposure or radiological accidents, or even to date archaeological samples.
