Abstract
The aim of this study is to identify the Arab students’ needs and attitudes of learning English. Quantitative method was used in the research. 108 Arab students who took compulsory English courses in the Computer Engineering Department at a private university in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in 2018–2019 academic year composed the universe of the research. The scales were applied to all the students who continued their education in this department. However, it was observed that the number of scales to be evaluated was 81. Therefore, the sample of the study is composed of 81 computer engineering students. The data was collected with the scale of “positive emotions of computer engineering students towards learning English” and “attitudes of computer engineering students towards learning English” developed by researchers. As a result of the research, it was found out that the students’ positive feelings towards English language are beneficial and their attitudes towards language learning provide achievement and easiness. Furthermore, it has been indicated that there is a serious relation among students’ needs and attitudes.
