Abstract
In his Afterword, Garrett Stewart comments on the world-making powers that the printed book and the contemporary novel’s bibliocentric experiments with narrative form possess in our present cultural moment. As a long-standing scholar of the intersections of literary and visual culture, he points out that the currently renewed interest in the book is not restricted to the literary field but also manifests itself in refigurations of the codex in painting, sculpture, and conceptual art. It is a transcultural phenomenon that attests to the cultural agency and affective force that the printed book unfolds in the context of digital culture.
