Abstract
The conceptualisations, theories and empirical evidence that intersect at the nexus of gender, age and violence is a hitherto understudied area of scholarship, but one which is increasing in importance given the ageing population and widespread awareness of ‘elder abuse’ and crimes against older people. Whilst there is a growing body of research looking at specific forms of violence and abuse against older people generally, or older women more specifically, the existing literature spans a number of distinct fields which have emerged separately. This collection has sought to address some of the gaps in evidence and provides a compendium of contemporary analysis of violence against older women; a single point of reference, and evidence, that can provide a starting point for further research, theory and policy. This final chapter considers the key themes and messages emerging from the collection.
