Abstract
This chapter examines reasons to be cautious about the #MeToo movement. That the widely accused Donald Trump got elected as President and that the similarly accused Judge Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court highlight there is still a way to go before sexual misconduct is considered an urgent problem worth acting on. In this chapter, #MeToo is examined as a movement that has excelled at consciousness-raising and agenda-setting but which has ill-defined objectives, meaning that moving beyond serving as a repository for testimonials hasn’t occurred. Also explored is the extent to which news media presents a false idea of impact, as well as the concern that celebrity stories continue to be disproportionately reported on and that celebrities still front the campaign. Translating #MeToo out of Hollywood remains a challenge.
