Abstract

Analyzing the torsional vibration of the shafts is of great importance in the process of developing the mechanical systems. It is particularly important to know the values of natural frequencies and mode shapes of such systems to avoid the effect of resonance. These values are derived from models that describe the motion of shafts during vibration. Torsional shaft vibrations can be modelled as discrete and continuous systems. A discrete system can be modelled as systems with one, two, three or more degrees of freedom. In this paper an analysis of two shafts connected through pair of gears is carried out. The analysis has been performed analytically as a three degree of freedom system and numerically with the use of ANSYS software.
