Abstract
Methyldopa is an antihypertensive whose mechanism has not been conclusively demonstrated but is probably due to the effect on metabolism to alpha-methylnorepinephrine which then lowers arterial pressure by stimulation of central inhibitory alpha-adrenergic receptors. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic and antihypertensive; it affects the renal tubular mechanism of electrolyte reabsorption.
