Abstract
This chapter will cover only the basic aspects of atomic and molecular theory that are necessary for an understanding of the following chapters. It begins with a description of Bohr’s atomic model, the hydrogen atom, and its eigenfunctions. The structure of more complex atoms is discussed next. A brief presentation on diatomic molecules is given at the end of the chapter.
