Abstract

It has been reported that in the early 1990s, the general downward trend in the prevalence of drug use that started in 1980 has continued (Johnston, O’Malley, & Bachman, 1992). Despite this encouraging report, which implies that adolescents continue to move away from the use of drugs (especially alcohol, marijuana, and cocaine), a considerable number of youngsters continue to use illicit drugs.
