Abstract
Raman scattering has been extensively used to investigate the lattice dynamics of graphite and GICs.1 Intercalant modes in GICs have however been observed with certainty2 only in C/Br2 and this is due to the fact that the measurement can be performed under resonance conditions. We present here Raman scattering measurements in stage 1 C/AsF5.3 The C-C vibration at 1638 cm−1 is resonantly enhanced in the blue-green region and has a pronounced distortion in the red region. Changing the excited surface from the c-face to a-face and using light polarized perpendicular to the graphite planes enables us to observe also the intercalant modes.
