Abstract
If you have come to this section of the book after having read (or at least skimmed) chapters 1 through 13, this chapter and the companion text (Educating Yourself About Alcohol and Drugs) can serve as a review.1 If you are here because you feel that an overview of emergency problems is the most important task for you, I bid you welcome and hope that you will have a chance to go back and review the other topics in greater depth. This single chapter cannot summarize each topic in detail, nor will it offer the number of references used in other sections of the book. It is, thus, important that you not approach the toxic reaction or overdose patient without also looking at the material in the relevant subsections of the chapters on CNS depressants, opioids, and so on (see sections 2.2.1 and 6.2.1 for examples).
