Abstract
Chapter 1 is the first part of Theme A of this book. It armed the reader with an understanding of the fundamental concepts of systems science. We are now ready to start the second phase of the introduction by again posing the question: What is systems science all about? As the title of this book suggests, systems science is about “dealing with complexity.” But “complexity has many possible meanings” (Klir, 1985b). So where do we go from here?
