Abstract
The structures obtained on rapid cooling to room temperature from the phase of the titanium base alloys containing Mo, V and/or Nb are either martensitic (α’) or ß + ω (athermal) or ß, depending upon the concentration of the alloying elements. The temperature, Tω, at which the athermal ω transformation is initiated, decreases with increasing concentration of solute additions(1,2) (oxygen included)(3). The athermal ω is observed to be reversible in Ti-Mo and Ti-V alloys.(2) Whereas the thermal ω occurs in a broader composition range and changes its lattice parameter with time at aging temperatures.
