Abstract
The investigation of microstructural changes during hot deformation of titanium alloys is of great practical interest especially for the establishment of optimal regimes of high-temperature mechanical treatment and for the study of possibility of application of hot deformation of a+ß alloys in ß field. Deformation in the ß field offers well-known technological advantages as well as improvements in plane strain fracture toughness and creep strength resist ance.(1) At the same time, 13 deformation, as numerous investiga-tions reveal, decreases tensile ductility of the alloys in comparison with deformation in a+ß field. However in (1) it was demonstrated that the proper choice of deformation conditions in beta field of Ti-6A1-4V results in the same tensile ductility as after a+ß deformation. The main prerequisite being extensive deformation with no recrystallization.
