Abstract
A decade ago, any suggestion that lamprophyres could be of economic importance would probably have been ridiculed. A turnabout has taken place via mounting evidence that lamprophyres are connected with a medley of precious materials: diamond, gold, sapphire and possibly PGEs. A realization has dawned that lamprophyres are ‘ultra-deep’ (Section 8.3), and that this makes them economically special. Even confining attention to lamprophyres other than kimberlites and lamproites still credits them with economic status. Only the briefest of outlines can be given here, as recent reviews are available in some cases (see below), and the latest developments necessarily involve confidential information.
