Abstract

In recent years attempts have been made to equate in vivo senescence with the finite lifespan demonstrated by human diploid cells. in vitro (1). While preliminary evidence indicates that it may be possible to use cultured cells as an in vitro model system for cellular aging, several critical questions need to be resolved before any true parallel can be drawn between the in vitro phenomenon and the in vivo process.
