Abstract
Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) has been shown to enhance steroid production in vivo in rabbits (1) and humans (2) and in vitro in prepubertal rat ovaries (3), isolated rat granulosa cells (4), as well as cultured baboon granulosa cells (5). In addition, Gozes and Tsafriri (6) have found VIP-encoding mRNA in rat ovaries, suggesting a local ovarian synthesis of VIP.
