Electrostatic Effects in the Adhesion of Powder Layers

Abstract

The adhesion of powder layers deposited onto metallic and non-metallic substrates was measured using a centrifuge. The powder was applied by a number of different techniques which charged the powder in different ways. The effect of the electrostatic force on adhesion could therefore be investigated. A summary of the forces of adhesion which could act on the particles is given. It is shown that the forces which hold the layer together are complicated and that electrostatic effects play an important part.
