Hydrogen Generation by Solid Polymer Electrolyte Water Electrolysis

  • Chapter
Hydrogen Energy

Abstract

The General Electric Company -water electrolysis technology, which is based on a solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) concept, is presented for applicability to large-scale hydrogen production in a future energy system. High cell current density operation is selected for the application, and supporting cell test performance data is presented. The inherent system advantages of the acid SPE electrolysis technology are explained. System performance predictions are made through the year 2000, along with plant capital and operating cost projections.
