Abstract
In addition to confining plasmas, the magnetic pressure can be used to accelerate plasmas to high velocities. There are a number of methods for projecting individual plasmoids (or plasma blobs) or continuous plasma jets from a nozzle by using the magnetic pressure. As in the confinement problem, a magnetic field can be created by currents, flowing either in external conductors or in the plasma.
