Electrocrystallization and Crystallization from the Gas Phase

  • Chapter
Fundamental Aspects of ELECTROCRYSTALLIZATION

Abstract

The problem of crystal growth from the vapor has been analyzed in detail, especially by Frank and his collaborators.12,44,178,179 In particular, they considered the problem of the equilibrium structure of a crystal surface and concluded that the steps on the surface of a crystal would present a large concentration of kinks and, therefore, would readily incorporate adatoms in their near vicinity. Another important conclusion concerns the primary role of surface diffusion in the mechanism of evaporation and growth of crystals.
