Abstract
Angiography of the thoracic vessels has a key role in the management of pulmonary embolism, hemoptysis, arteriovenous fistula, and aortic aneurysms. In addition to the diagnostic information obtained by this procedure, angiographic catheter techniques are now being used as effective tools in the treatment of pulmonary embolism by intraarterial injections of fibrinolytic drugs (1) and catheter suction embolectomy (2) and in the treatment of hemoptysis (3) and pulmonary arteriovenous fistulae (4) by selective catheter embolization. Angiography is also useful in the planning and follow-up of surgical procedures in conditions such as dissecting aortic aneurysm (5,6) bronchial carcinoma (7), and bullous emphysema (8).
