Abstract
Crops are frequently, if not always, subjected to some stress or combination of stresses that limit growth. It is not surprising that stresses affect crop plant respiration rate and may also alter respiration qualitatively. In this chapter the effects of stress on respiration will be covered. A few stresses will be dealt with in some detail, but the principles of stress effects on respiration in general will be emphasized. In keeping with the notions of respiration presented in the previous chapters, several effects on respiration can be predicted, and explanations offered, for these responses.
