Abstract
This chapter introduces the Geographic Information System (GIS) user to functions in S-Plus and S+SpatialStats that may be used for the analysis of spatial data from a GIS database. The main features of S+SpatialStats are illustrated through specific examples using data imported from the ARC/INFO GIS. The import is done with S+GISLINK, a module for S-Plus that allows data transfer between S-Plus and ARC/INFO. The examples in this chapter are meant to supplement the non-GIS examples used in chapters 4–6, by showing how spatial data analysis in S+SpatialStats might be implemented using several types of data from GIS.
In this chapter you will learn about the following:
-
GIS data, especially ARC/INFO coverages and spatial data analysis (section 7.1).
-
Spatial data analysis of a point coverage (section 7.2).
-
Spatial data analysis of a polygon coverage (section 7.3).
-
Spatial data analysis of a grid (section 7.4).
